Attorney James Ellis Gumbiner


Mr. Gumbiner is the owner of the Law Firm, which was established in 1978 to provide legal services  to people involved in accidents.  He completed his undergraduate studies at DePaul University and   received a Bachelor of Science in commerce in 1971.  He graduated from the DePaul University Law School and received a Juris Doctor in 1973.  He was admitted into the Illinois State Bar in 1974,  and further admitted to the U.S. District Court in 1974.  His past experience includes the prosecution of   jury trials in automobile accidents.  He has prosecuted many cases at the Illinois Industrial  Commission for workers injured during their employment.  He has further assisted in  prosecuting wrongful death cases, medical  malpractice, railroad accidents and boating  accidents.   He has supervised the Gumbiner Law    Firm which concentrates in all areas of accidents involving people sustaining catastrophic injuries.

For his excellence in practice, Mr. Gumbiner   received an acknowledgement from   Martindale-Hubbell celebrating his 35-years in the practice of law.  He has further held a Seminar  for doctors educating them on the various issues  involved in automobile accidents and worker’s   compensation accidents.

Mr. Gumbiner has attended various political events concerning the numerous issues Hispanics face in   today’s community.  Mr. Gumbiner has taken great  pride in presenting an excellent legal service to the entire community.



Attorney Christopher A. Tomczyk


Mr. Tomczyk joined the Gumbiner law firm in April of 2005.  He is a graduate of the DePaul College of Law class of 2001, and was admitted to the Bar in November of the same year.  His past work experience includes work in personal injury, inclusive of dog bites, slip and fall, auto accident claims, and Workers’ Compensation.  He spent over two years working for a firm that concentrated in Workers’ Compensation defense.  He usually understands what the defense will do before they actually do it.  He uses this knowledge and experience to benefit his clients in prosecuting their Workers’ Compensation cases.  Mr. Tomczyk is a member of the Illinois Bar Association.

Mr. Tomczyk is the managing attorney of the firm and is responsible for reviewing cases with associate attorneys, as well as handling the day to day operation of the firm.  In addition he works with the office manager to coordinate the efforts of the rest staff of the law firm.

Mr. Tomczyk was born and raised in Chicago Illinois, and graduated from Bradley University in 1998 with a degree in Political Science.   He speaks Spanish and has participated in various Hispanic cultural events which gives him an understanding of the clients he represents today.  He has family friends from Guadalajara Mexico, and plans to visit in the near future.



Attorney Eduardo Salgado


Eduardo Salgado is a Staff attorney with the Gumbiner law firm.  Mr. Salgado concentrates in the area of Workers’ Compensation.  Mr. Salgado speaks Spanish and he is sensitive to the problems injures workers experience as a result of accidents in the work place.

Mr. Salgado graduated from the Northern Illinois University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Political Science and a Minor in Japanese.  He was admitted into the Illinois Bar in November of 2010 after earning his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law.  While attending NIU College of Law, Mr. Salgado served as an extern for Cook Co. Associate Judge Mark J. Lopez, in the Domestic Relations Division.   Furthermore during this time, Mr. Salgado prosecuted domestic violence cases for the Kane County State’s attorney’s office.

Currently Mr. Salgado has reached out to the Hispanic community where he has held a seminar at a public school to educate Hispanics in the area of accident law.  Mr. Salgado will continue to work with the Hispanic community to assist clients involved in accidents.



Attorney Lilia Picazo

Lilia Picazo joined James Ellis Gumbiner and Associates as an associate attorney in 2013. She joined the firm with three years of experience in the areas of workers’ compensation and employment and labor defense.
Ms. Picazo received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Business Management in 2007. In 2012, Ms. Picazo received her J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. While in law school, Ms. Picazo served as a volunteer instructor for Constitutional Law through the Lawyers in the Classroom outreach program, and as a restorative justice student mentor throughout Chicago Public Schools.
Ms. Picazo is a fluent Spanish-speaking first generation Mexican-American who was actively involved in the Hispanic community while growing up. She has conducted informational sessions relating to individual rights under workers’ compensation and personal injury law on Univision Radio.
Currently, Ms. Picazo focuses her practice in the area of workers’ compensation, advocating on behalf of employees injured in the workplace.
